Winter Classic: Washington Capitals vs. Chicago Blackhawks Recap

The Washington Capitols defeated the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday, in front of a crowd of 42,832 at National's Park. The Annual NHL Winter Classic was not a disappointment. The teams took the ice under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 40s throughout the game. The ice conditions were considered the best in the Winter Classic's eight year existence. The Capitols struck first with first period goals by Eric Fehr and Alex Ovechkin at the 7:01 and 11:58 mark respectively. Chicago answered with a Patrick Sharp Power Play goal just a few minutes later. Capitol, Brandon Saad tied the game up at 2 early in the second period. The game remained tight trough the remainder of the game. Troy Brouwer dealt the knockout blow with time running on a Alex Ovechkin to Mike Green assist.
