The visiting Wake Forest Demon Deacons opened a three game series at Clemson's Doug Kingsmore Stadium with a convincing win. Tiger ace Matthew Crownover, rocked for three earned runs before he left the game in the sixth inning, was tagged with the loss. Wake Forest pulled away from the Tigers in the seventh inning scoring four runs by taking advantage of Clemson errors. The scoring continued in the next inning with a bases empty round tripper belted by Will Craig. Matt Piero was credited with the win, his sixth of the year. Both first-round matchups were decided in the final seconds as Boston College edged Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech. In the opening game, Olivier Hanlan led Boston College with 25 points and Patrick Heckmann had 17 for the Eagles. Hanlan's jumper with 12 seconds to play was the game winner. Boston College won their fourth straight and moved on to face North Carolina. Later in the afternoon, Code Miller-Mcintyre scored 23 to lead Wake Forest and Devin Thomas added 22. But Jalen Hudson's jumper with 13 seconds to play was the game winner for the Hokies. Hudson scored 32 points on the afternoon, helping his team to move on to a second round game against Miami.
