Texas Tech struggled more than expected against winless Kansas, but still escaped Lawrence with a victory. Kansas got within 23-20 and took possession with a chance at the go-ahead score, but the Red Raiders' Jah'Shawn Johnson intercepted a Ryan Willis pass and returned it 27 yards for the game-clinching touchdown. Typical of a Big 12 game, both teams relied heavily on the pass. Willis finished 35-of-50 for 330 yards and two touchdowns, while Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes II finished 30-of-51 for 359 yards and one touchdown. Texas Tech's DeAndre Washington gained 160 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, while the home team's De'Andre Mann ran for 107 yards on 15 carries.

Texas Tech took a convincing win against Iowa State. Despite injuries on receivers Sadler and Lauderdale, the Red Raiders offense was too strong. Quarterback Mahome managed to successfully make 33 of his 46 passes without a single interception, tallying up 428 yards and 5 touchdowns. Grant caught a total of 9 passes throughout the game, scoring 2 touchdowns for the team. The Cyclones also made a great effort with 495 yards on offense, but it wasn't enough to keep up with Texas Tech. Their 3 touchdowns kept them in the game, but the Red Raiders managed 3 interceptions, dominating the turnover competition. Texas Tech actually hit 776 yards, a school record.

Baylor scored 49 points in the first half, helping the Bears to improve to 4-0 in a home win over Texas Tech. The teams combined for over 1300 yards of offense and blew past Las Vegas oddsmakers' record high over-under of 90 points for the game. Bears quarterback Seth Russell completed 15-of-23 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns, giving him 19 touchdown passes already this season. Russell also ran for 81 yards and two scores. Corey Coleman caught three of Russell's touchdown passes and had seven total receptions for 110 yards. Baylor running back Shock Linwood ran for 221 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 415 yards, but the Red Raiders were outgained 368-106 on the ground.
