NBA Preseason: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers Recap

In an up and down battle between Western Conference foes, the home court L.A. Lakers outlasted the Portland Trail Blazers with an excellent final period to steal a two-point victory.

The teams traded 4 point leads for much of the 1st half, Portland holding a two basket advantage after one quarter, then the Lakers turning the tables to tie the game at half time.

As if they were going to alternate quarters, the Blazers won the 3rd quarter by a single basket to take a 2-point lead into the final 20-minute period. In the last few minutes Laker high point man Jordan Clarkson would take control of the game, netting two final baskets down the stretch to secure victory for the Lakers, their 3rd against 4 losses in the preseason. Portland’s record was now even up at 3-3.

NBA Preseason: Portland Trail Blazers vs. Utah Jazz Recap

Behind 32 points from Damian Lillard, the Trail Blazers rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat the Jazz in a preseason game at Moda Center. Lillard hit six three-pointers on the night and got plenty of help from backcourt mate C.J. McCollum, who scored 26 points. Lillard was fouled on Portland's final possession of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Portland had a 35-17 advantage in the period. The Blazers then scored the first ten points of overtime to effectively clinch the game. With their new-look roster featuring only one returning starter, Portland has started 3-2 in the preseason. Trey Burke led the Jazz with 22 points in 23 minutes.

NBA Preseason: Utah Jazz vs. Portland Trail Blazers Recap

Portland's Meyers Leonard finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, helping the Trail Blazers to a preseason win at Utah. Portland's defense was the key to the victory, as the Blazers held the Jazz to 31 percent shooting from the floor. Utah made only five three-pointers in the game. C.J. McCollum added 16 points and Al-Farouq Aminu had 15 for the Blazers. For the Jazz, Alec Burks had 19 points and eight rebounds while Rodney Hood scored 13. Utah led 80-79 after Hood's jump shot with 1:31 to play, but Portland scored the next seven points to effectively clinch the victory.

Portland Trail Blazers Schedule in 2014 - 2015

The Portland Trail Blazers open the regular season at the Utah Jazz on Tuesday October 7, 2014. They follow that up by having 2 home games in a row with the Utah Jazz again on October 9th followed by the LA Clippers on Sunday October 12th. The Portland Trail Blazers end the season on the road against The Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday April 15. The team has consecutive home games back to back 1 time in October, 4 times in November, 2 times in December, 3 times in January, 2 times in February, 2 times in March, and 1 time in April. The good thing is the first 11 out of 17 games are at home, which will hopefully lead to a successful season for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Portland Trail Blazers Roster

The Portland Trail Blazers have 16 players on their team. The forwards consist of Lamarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum, Victor Claver, Thomas Robinson, James Southerland and Dorell Wright. The guards are Will Barton, Meyers leonard, Steve Blake, Allan Crabbe, Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, and Westley Matthews. The Centers consist of Joel Freeland, Chris Kaman, and Robin Lopez.

The tallest player on the Team is Meyers Leonard who comes in at a tall 7 Foot 1. The smallest player Steve Blake isn't that small and comes in at 6 Foot 3. For Football, that is tall, but still not that small for Basketball in my opinion. The only 2 players not returning to the team this year from last season are Earl Watson and Mo Williams who went to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Going into his 3rd season, coach Terry Stotts hopes to lead the team to victory. He comes in with a record of 87-77, and hopefully, he will keep the winning streak alive. I can't wait until the first game is played.

Portland Trail Blazers Fan Experience

The Portland Trail Blazers home stadium is called the Moda Center. It is was originally called the Rose Garden and has been around since October 12, 1995. It cost an expensive $262 million dollars to build the stadium. There are 14,000 seats in the stadium which are permanent. There are also 70 skyboxes, which seats 22 people. These are more expensive than the original seats. The lease agreement for the Moda Center runs through 2025, which means they have a long time to talk in extending the lease, which seems to be fairly likely. Prior to the Moda Center, the name of the stadium was called the Memorial Coliseum. The old stadium held 12,888 seats

Portland Trail Blazers Trivia

The first playoff victory last year for the Portland Trail Blazers was a thriller. It went into overtime and the score was 122-120 over the Rockets. That is the first time that 2 players went for 45 and 30 points in the same game since Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen since 1992. LaMarcus Aldridge scored a franchise record of 46 points in last years playoffs.

Portland Trail Blazers History

The Portland Trail Blazers has been around since 1970. They posted their first winning record of 49-33 and their first playoff season in the 1976-1977 season under Coach Ramsay. This was lead by Lucas and Lloyd Neal at forward, and Dave Twardzik and Lionel Hollins at guard. The team followed the 1977-1978 season with a 50-10 record. The team was definitely going in the right direction. However, they did not make it back to finals after losing in the semi finals to to Seattle.

In the 1980's the team continued to play great basketball. The Trail Blazers used the #2 pick in 1984 to draft the center Sam Bowie. However, he was one of the biggest draft busts due to several leg injuries. There were some financial difficulties in 2003 where they had to cut some coaches. The team was regenerated in 2006 when they did a trade of Viktor Khryapa for LaMarcus Aldridge. The team today hopes to continue their winning ways.

Portland Trail Blazers Rumors

There is a rumor going around that the Portland Trail Blazers may try to trade for Rajon Rondo. It doesn't make sense to me as the team already has a point guard in Damian Lillard. Rondo is 4 years older than Lillard and has not been as healthy. However, you cannot deny Rajon Rondo's success. What also doesn't make sense is the Portland Trail Blazers are very tight against the cap, and they need to use that money next year in order to sign tsome of their own free agents. Aldridge and Lillard are the two players the team needs to make all efforts to extend. In my opinion, I do not see the Trail Blazers trading for Rondo.
