Ottawa Senators Vs. Nashville Predators Recap

The Predators and Senators have both played relatively well to start off the seeason. This game would be back and forth, and James Neal of the Predators would be a stud as he would score twice and lead the predators to an overtime win. Mike Hoffman would do his best to help the Senators scoring twice and the game tyer to send it into overtime. Overtime passed and the shootout was on. The shootout was all tied it up at one when James Neal put one past Craig Anderson to win the game. The Predators improved to a 4-1 record this season.

Pittsburgh Penguins Vs. Ottawa Senators Recap

The Ottawa Senators traveled to Pittsburgh on October 15th to play the Penguins at the Consol Energy Center. Coming into the game, Pittsburgh had struggled both with goaltending and scoring leading to a winless 0-3 record on the young season. The first period came and went with zero goals or penalties as both goalies made strong saves. Evgeni Malkin looked to change this in the 2nd as he collected a rebound and netted it past Senators goalie, Anderson. Up next was Penguins rookie, Daniel Sprong who scored his first career NHL goal extending the lead to 2. The Senators were empty on their retaliation attempts and Marc Andre-Fleury recorded his 39th career shutout.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Ottawa Senators Recap

If you like offense this was a game you would want to watch as the Ottawa Senators took it to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets came out strong and took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period but it was all Ottawa after that. Everybody was having their way on the offensive end as 7 different Senators scored a goal. Defenseman Erik Karlsson would lead the team in points with 4, as he had 4 assists. Mika Zibanejad was next as he had 3, scoring 1 goal, and providing 2 assists. The win kept the Senators hot, while the Columbus Blue Jackets still look a little lost as they remain winless this season.

Ottawa Senators Schedule in 2014 - 2015

The Ottawa Senators will get the puck moving in the regular season starting with the Predators on the road on October 9th then they play the Lightening and Panthers on the road. On October 16th vs. the Avalanche will be there season opener at 7:30 PM. The big sporting tradition in Canada is Hockey Day where all the Canadian teams face each a team from Canada on the same day this year the senators will sparing with Edmonton this is the 4th year in a row they will play the team for this occasion. Prior to that though in promising match up is on December 20th Vs. the Canadians this will be one four games vs. this team. 7 days later there will be a blast from the past when Daniel Alfredsson returns if he’s healthy and hasn’t been traded that is. He would be playing for the Red Wings the puck in that game is set to drop at 7:30 On December 27tH. Looking far ahead the last game at home for the regular season will take place April 7th vs. Pittsburgh and the other team from PA the Flyers will be the team the Senators face in the last game on the 11th of April

It is chop time right now for the team but what for the most part is confirmed is that Alex Chiasson will be starting at forward also starting on D will be Erik Karlsson. Look for Marc Methot and Milan Michalek are said to be the leaders on this years squad. They will have to step up on and off the ice after Spezza left the team. Since he left there is also a battle going on for the starting center position right now it look like the job will go to Kyle Turris. David Legwand was brought on over the Summer for a 6 million 2 year contract. He is excepted to help yes play but also help the younger forwards during practice. Look for big plays to happen when right winger Bobby Ryan plays this year reports are that he is healthier than ever and truly ready for the season.

The Senators home ice is housed inside the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, The facility which opened in 1996 is relatively large holding 19,153. It is located in a blue collar part of town. There has often been references made that it is similar to the Palace in Michigan. They have pretty decent sight lines but off the ice of you are a hockey history buff or looking to learn more you should check out the murals they have and you can see high lights from around the league on one of there state of the art video boards. The drinks are ok but your average selection but if you want something to eat they have local pork from a place called Triple Pork, make sure to get bacon with your pork when you visit. Also you will hear enlgish and French spoken from the announcers.

True hockey historians don’t see this team as the first squad in Ottawa the first team was started back in 1886 e Ottawa Silver Seven was skating back in those days you only had 7 guys playing per side. There is little record of the games back then but historically thought to be one of the earliest teams.

Ottawa Senators History

The Team started in the NHL though in 1917 they remained there into the 1920’s with players like Smith Ed Gorman, Denneny and Frank Nighbor. The team you know abut today didn’t come about until an other half a century after a long hiatus that lasted until1992. They had a rough couple of first seasons early days saw over 70 looses. During the mid 90s with the help of Daniel Alfredsson and more support by Chris Phillip, the record from that era is ok they won 4 division titles in 99,2001,2002 and in 2006. During the 2003 season they had a good year winning the Presidents Trophy. In 2007 they made it to the Stanly Cup finals. They have always had the Red, black, gold and white colors . They are the second class citizens compared to the rivals Montreal Canadians and especially the Toronto Maple Leafs that has been going on since the 90’s.

The fans are loud because hockey is beloved up there but over all they average about 19000 people per game often bigger spikes when an good opposing team comes into play. There a area group of core fans that often show up calling themselves the Sen Army while they might wear T shirts they don’t really make that much noise from what most people observed say. The bars in the area will have it on but there just not as popular as the other hockey teams in Canada. The crowed up there though does more then average US fan usually when it comes to the rules and history of the NHL.

The senators might trade Jason Spezza, SI.COM along with NBC sports have talked about this numerous times . The reason being is that they want to lowe there cap space and by trading him it could really help them also there is a chance that Boston may have something to offer in a deal that would involve multiple trades and maybe even a draft pick. There is also rumors that you could see Speeza skating for the sharks by 2015. The Ducks could also be a team that would call calling for him. The word is though if he is a good player for the locker room and front office that is way there might not be any deal they may keep him on and trade someone else.
