NBA Preseason: Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans Recap

The Houston Rockets are projected to be one of the highest scoring offensive shows in the NBA this upcoming season, and last night against the New Orleans Pelicans they held up that lofty projection. All 5 Rocket starters scored in double-digits led by James Harden with 20 points, plus every player but Harden shot the ball at well over the 50% clip.

While turnovers, steals and personal foul team statistics were almost identical, Houston took the board advantage by 6 rebounds, and then it came down to shooting the rock far better than the Pelicans did.

Ryan Anderson, who is not normally one of New Orleans higher shot-takers, took nearly twice as many shots as the next highest Hornet. A pair of reserve guards for New Orleans could hit on 2 baskets each, as Nate Robinson and Bo McCalebb split a total of 18 tries.

Poor shooting by the Hornets helped propel the Rockets to victory, but the home crowd had to be enthused by the outstanding team offense exhibited by Houston. An offensive show that will be needed when the regular season starts next week.

NBA Preseason: New Orleans Pelicans vs. Sacramento Kings Recap

The Kings' Rudy Gay scored 20 points and collected 10 rebounds, leading Sacramento to a road win at New Orleans and a 6-1 preseason record. DeMarcus Cousins and Darren Collison added 19 points each for the Kings, and Omri Casspi scored 16. For the Pelicans, Ryan Anderson scored 20 points off the bench on 6-of-14 shooting. New Orleans' star forward Anthony Davis had 19 points and eight rebounds. Casspi broke a 76-all tie with a jump shot with 1:50 remaining, then Collison scored the next five points to clinch the win for Sacramento. Both teams are hoping to return to the playoffs after disappointing 2014-2015 seasons.

NBA Preseason: Chicago Bulls vs. New Orleans Pelicans Recap

The Pelicans' Anthony Davis scored 26 points, leading New Orleans to a win over Chicago in a high-scoring game at the United Center. Davis hit 10-of-16 shots and also had eight rebounds. He was helped by Ryan Anderson, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Sean Kilpatrick scored 23 for New Orleans. For the Bulls, Bobby Portis led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Chicago led 66-54 at the half, but the Pelicans scored 69 points in the second half to earn the victory. The Bulls enjoyed a 52-40 advantage in rebounding but committed 14 turnovers to the Pelicans' seven.

They will also host the Spurs in their last game of the season. It will not be an easy close to the season as 6 of their 9 games in April will be on the road, including 3 instances where they play back-to-back games in that stretch. They will also have 4 back-to-backs in March. Former fan favorite Chris Paul will be in town with the Los Angeles Clippers on January 30th, 2015. In early February they will have the tough task of playing the Oklahoma City Thunder two days in a row.

New Orleans Pelicans Roster

The New Orleans Pelicans have one of the more intriguing rosters in the league for the upcoming season, and of course it all starts with Anthony Davis who may already be the best big man in the league while still being so young with so much upside. He is a defensive presence down low like no other big man the league has seen for a long time. In the off season they added Omar Asik from the Houston Rockets so that Davis wouldn't have to bang so much down low with more physical bigs. Ryan Anderson gives them a versatile tall shooter, Jrue Holliday and Tyreke Evans give them two proven guards that both can score the basketball. They also have many intriguing young guards with high offensive potential in Eric Gordon, Jimmer Freddette, and a rookie Russ Smith out of Louisville who is a little small for a 2 guard but was a big time playmaker throughout his college career, if he gets on the floor he is sure to be a fan favorite.

New Orleans Pelicans Fan Experience

The New Orleans Pelicans play in the Smoothie King Center, originally known as the New Orleans arena. The arena was built in 1999 and seats 18,500 fans. It offers club seating, lounges and 56 privately owned suites. Each suite contains a bar and comfortable lounge furnishings. There are upscale dining options, and they have opened a few new quick serve places called the sweet shack and swirl, and they offer catering for their suites. The Back Court Grill has been a long time favorite of many fans with varieties of burgers and ribs and many other selections.

New Orleans Pelicans Trivia

The Pelicans were one of the worst teams in the league after losing Chris Paul, but they won the draft lottery at the right time. Anthony Davis is the brightest young star to come into the league for many years and they were the lucky franchise to get him. If they had got the number 1 pick any other year their future would not be the same.

New Orleans Pelicans History

The New Orleans Pelicans do not have a very long history, the franchise was only established in 2002 as the New Orleans Hornets, who had previously been in Charlotte since 1988. In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina they had to play two seasons in Oklahoma City before returning to New Orleans for the 2007-2008 season. In 2013 they changed their name to the Pelicans, and now they have returned the history of the Charlotte franchise from 1988-2002 to the Charlotte franchise. In their short time as a franchise they have won their division one time, and made the playoffs 5 times. Their best players were the star point guard Chris Paul who now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, and current big man Anthony Davis who would be considered to be one of the better players to build around in the league. So while there isn't much of a history for this young franchise there certainly is a lot to look forward to in the near future.

New Orleans Pelicans Fan Info

New Orleans Pelicans have had an interesting time in their short span with an NBA team. Hurricane Katrina was a life changing event that caused many fans to have to move to new cities, and then the team moved to. For awhile they had one of the best point guards in the league in Chris Paul and things were going well, then Paul got traded to the Clippers and they were down again. But then they were able to get Anthony Davis and the franchise is back on the right track again and the Smoothie King Center should be packed and a hard place to play for the immediate future.

New Orleans Pelicans Rumors

A few rumors swirling around the New Orleans Pelicans are that Jimmer Fredette may finally be ready to make an impact in the league, not as a full time starter but a quality roll player off the bench who comes in to score in bunches. And Russ Smith is becoming a fan favorite already with his aggressive and all out style of play. Between those two and Eric Gordon they have a lot of firepower on the bench that could come in and put a lot of points on the board in a hurry. There are also rumors that Anthony Davis is much more comfortable now that Omar Asik is their to guard the other teams more physical big men.
