NHL Stanley Cup Finals: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning - Home Game 3 Recap

The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning Monday night to win the Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay put up a good fight in the series, but the Blackhawks won the final three games for a 4-2 series victory. They hoisted the cup for the third time in six years. Corey Crawford's goaltending was one of the biggest factors, as he stopped 25 shots to shut out the Lightning Monday. Crawford allowed only two goals total in the final three games. But it was defenseman Duncan Keith who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, and Keith fittingly had the game-winning goal, breaking a scoreless tie with 2:47 left in the second period. Patrick Kane added an insurance tally, his 11th of the playoffs. with 5:14 to play in the third.

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals happened on Saturday night. The Lightning were looking to go ahead 3-2 and retain home advantage while the Blackhawks looked to steal away home Ice and go up 3-2 with a chance to clinch on their home ice. Ben Bishop was back in goal for the Lightning and that had the home crowd fired up. The Blackhawks came out quickly and poured on the offense, they would strike first and get a goal by Patrick Sharp to take a 1-0 lead. This would last till the 2nd period when Valtteri Fillpula would tie it up. Heading to the third period everything was all tied up and Antoine Vermette of the Blackhawks untied it 2 minutes into the 3rd period. That is all Crawford would need as he was stellar in goal for the Blackhawks. Chicago would go on to win the game, and would head back home to clinch the last game and win the Stanley Cup.

The Tampa Bay Lightning looked to grab a strong hold lead on the Chicago Blackhawks. The Lightning however would have to do this without it’s starting goalie Bishop as he was sidelined by an undisclosed injury. Rookie goalie A Vasilevskiy would have a tough task to try and stop the Blackhawks and would actually go on to have a good game. The game started off slowly as nobody scored in the first period. Jonathan Toews would break the tie by scoring early into the 2nd period. About 5 minutes later Alex Killorn would tie it up for the Lightning. This would go till the 3rd period tied up. Midway through the 3rd period Brandon Saad broke loose and put one past Vasilevskiy to give the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead. From there Crawford of the Blackhawks would be a stone wall, and lead them to victory and tie up the series 2-2.
