Connecticut earned their third straight NCAA women's basketball title Tuesday night in Tampa by beating Notre Dame. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Moriah Jefferson each scored 15 points to lead Connecticut's offense. Huskies coach Geno Auriemma won his tenth title, tying the total of legendary coach John Wooden in the men's game. Notre Dame had a 45-34 rebounding advantage, but Connecticut's defense held the Irish to 33% shooting and forced 17 turnovers. The Irish got within 56-50 with five minutes remaining, but Connecticut scored the next seven points to put the game away. Brianna Turner had 14 points and ten rebounds to lead Notre Dame's losing effort.

The women's NCAA basketball final will match up the same two teams that played last year. Connecticut and Notre Dame both won their semifinal games in Tampa to advance to Tuesday's championship game. In Sunday's first game, South Carolina played a great game but lost to the Irish on Madison Cable's putback for the game-winner. The Irish got 22 points from Jewell Lloyd and improved to 36-2. South Carolina took the lead with a 13-0 run late in the second half before losing on Cable's basket. The nightcap wasn't nearly as close, as Connecticut blew out top-seeded Maryland behind 25 points by Breanna Stewart and 24 from Morgan Tuck. The Huskies improved to 37-1 and will be the favorite in the title game.

In the NCAA match between Notre Dame and South Carolina, Notre Dame started strongly in the first half and by the end of the first half, Notre Dame had taken a four point lead. In the second half, South Carolina emerged in front by three points but could not erase the four point deficit. Brianna Turner top scored for Notre Dame with 17 points. In the match between Maryland and Connecticut, Connecticut started strongly and managed to end the first half with a 11 point lead. In the second half, Connecticut continued to dominate the proceedings and ended the second half with a 12 point lead. Breanna Stewart top scored for Connecticut with 25 points while Brionna Jones top scored for Maryland with 14 points.
