Tyus Jones scored 23 points Monday night, leading Duke to its fifth NCAA championship. The Wisconsin Badgers played a hard-fought game but fell short in the end. Duke led 66-58 when Jones hit a three-pointer with 1:24 to play, but Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky made a three-pointer and Nigel Hayes followed with a dunk to cut the lead to 66-63 with 50 seconds remaining. Jones was fouled and made both free throws, and Wisconsin missed their final three shots of the game. Duke attemped 16 free throws in the second half to Wisconsin's three. Grayson Allen had 16 points off the Duke bench. Playing in his final game, Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Badgers.

In the first half of the NCAA game between Kentucky Wildcats and Wisconsin Badgers, both teams scored identical 36 points by the end of the first half. In the second half, Wisconsin Badgers managed to assert their superiority and took the final half by a convincing 7 point margin. Kaminsky top scored for Wisconsin with 20 points and Towns top scored for Kentucky with 16 points. In the game between Michigan State and Duke, Duke took a comfortable 11 point lead by the end of the 1st half. By the end of the second half, Duke again came out on top with a nine point advantage. Winslow top scored for Duke with 19 points while Valentine top scored for Michigan State with 22 points.
