Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv came into Tuesday's (October 7th) NBA pre-season matchup with the New Jersey Nets as the defending Euroleague champions - that status held no weight in this game. The Nets came out firing with a quick 12-2 lead to start the game, led by eight first quarter points from Brook Lopez. Maccabi managed to close the gap to 31-30 in the second quarter, before guard Deron Williams ignited a 10-3 run that put the Nets up 59-47 at the half. New Jersey stretched its lead to 88-69 at the end of the third quarter, before eventually defeating Maccabi. Lopez impressed with 20 points and four rebounds in limited time, while former NBA guard Jeremy Pargo led Maccabi with 27 points.

Cleveland's Cavaliers of the NBA matched up against Maccabi Tel Aviv, one of Europe's finest hoop squads, in a pre-season battle on the hardwood. Cleveland's new coach, David Blatt, coached this team in the past so it was an interesting matchup for him. The Cavs took charge of the contest from the start and previewed what kind of team they are and the kind of season they are primed to have. Maccabi came within fifteen points of the Cavs in the first half but then the Cavaliers turned on all cylinders and showcased their talents. LeBron James sat the bench in the second half so many other Cleveland players stepped in to fill important roles.
