Florida College Hockey Classic: Notre Dame vs. Miami(OH) & Cornell vs. Lake Superior State Recap

In the first game of day one, Notre Dame took on Miami. Miami took the lead in the first period. In the second period, Notre Dame tied the scores at 1-1. In the third period, Miami again took the lead. With a few seconds remaining in the third period, Notre dame again tied the scores and took the game in to extra time. Notre dame scored the winning goal in the extra time.In the second game of this two day Florida College Hockey Classic event, Cornell took on Lake Superior State. Both the teams failed to score any goal in the regular three periods . In the overtime also both the teams couldn’t break the deadlock taking the game in to penalty shoot out. Lake Superior prevailed over Cornell in the penalty shoot out.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had an exciting match against the Lake Superior State Lakers on October 18, 2014 at the Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, IN. The Lake Superior State Lakers suffered a major defeat; the Fighting Irish won the match with a score of 5-1 respectively. The star player of the evening was junior forward player Mario Lucia who scored a hat trick and led the team to victory, it was a no looking back game for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from the start to the finish, the two teams were equally good but the effort of Mario Lucia put the game out of reach for the Lake Superior State Lakers eventually.

The terrific game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Lake Superior State Lakers started off with a bang, the crowds were definitely pleased to see their favorite teams play and the Compton Family Ice Arena had a full house, the match was exiting till the finish, unfortunately the Lake Superior State Lakers lost to their rival team the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by 5-3 margin, what a scintillating match it was indeed. Gordon Defiel the freshman net minder was perhaps the star player for this game as he came up with 36 saves in the match, thus leading the team to a jubilant victory.
