17th-ranked Iowa remained undefeated with a rout of 20th-ranked Northwestern at Ryan Field. After leading 16-10 at halftime, the Hawkeyes scored 24 straight points after the break to put this one out of reach. The Wildcats had no way to stop Iowa running back Akrum Wadley, who gained 204 yards and scored four touchdowns in his first career start. Derrick Mitchell Jr. added 79 rushing yards and another touchdown for the Hawkeyes, who improved to 7-0. The Wildcats, who fell to 5-2 with their second straight loss, gained just 198 yards of offense all day. Clayton Thorson's four-yard pass to Christian Jones provided Northwestern's only touchdown.

It was already a problematic day due to the environmental factors--the players and their fans were forced to relocate indoors for the game as the stadium stood empty outdoors. The Fighting Illini's most valuable player did a pass that turned out to be climactic moment for the team. He and his teammates worked very hard that day for the epic outcome. Iowa took advantage of four Wisconsin turnovers to earn an upset road win over 19th-ranked Wisconsin in both teams' Big Ten opener. The Hawkeyes failed to score after halftime, but nevertheless improved to 5-0 on the season. Iowa's Jordan Canzeri ran for 125 yards on 26 carries, whiel Matt VandeBerg caught six passes for 61 yards. Canzeri already has three 100-yard rushing games this season. The Badgers fell to 3-2. Wisconsin's senior quarterback Joel Stave threw for 234 yards on 21-for-38 passing but was intercepted twice, fumbled two other times, and failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season.
