East Carolina Pirates vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Recap
September 26, 2015
The Virginia Tech Hokies looked to continue to improve after a very good win last week. The Pirates of East Carolina looked to upset the Hokies and solidfy themselves. The Hokies came out fast as they scored on the opening possession, and recovered a fumble on the next possesssion by ECU and scored on that as well to give them a 14-0 lead. However ECU would battle back and score on two touchdowns themselves to tie it up, and add another TD before half to give them a 21-14 at halftime. Brenden Motley played well for Va Tech throwing for 281 yards, and a touchdown, but it would be back up Quarterback James Summers who would be the star for ECU. With rainy conditions, coach McNeil decided to try the option QB who would throw for one touchdown and run for 2, while adding a 169 yards on the ground. ECU would hold on to the win game even with a late surge by Va Tech.
Florida Gators vs. East Carolina Pirates Recap
September 12, 2015
The Florida Gators welcomed the East Carolina Pirates to The Swamp in Gainesville, Florida for their home opener. Usually lower-level teams are supposed to oblige by rolling over and playing dead for their gracious hosts, taking home a big financial payday for their school, but not creating any problems on the girdiron. ECU must have missed that memo.
The game in general was just plain sloppy for the second week of college football, most of all the Gator squad who looked more like a bunch of runway models trying to show off for the national TV audience. When Florida players did something good, it seemed as though they had just won the National Title.
The Gator arrogance was not lost on the upstart Pirates. Although they could not muster much more than an inch on the ground, netting 4 total yards rushing for the whole game, East Carolina had the Gator-heavy crowd chewing their fingernails to the cuticle as the sat perched to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.
One of the oddest miscues a football fanatic may ever see saw ECU quarterback Blake Kemp drop back to attempt a late game pass, only to have the pigskin slip harmlessly out of hands and bounce on the turf. Florida uncovered the only fumble of the game and the threat was ended. Kemp looked skyward in bewilderment, and the Gator players once again acted like they had really won something big, when in actuality all they had done was escape a near upset on their home turf.
When the Florida University football team travels north to the Bluegrass State next Saturday, in all likelihood a high-powered Kentucky Wildcat offense may not be so obliging.
