Montreal Canadiens vs. Detroit Red Wings Recap

Two classic original six teams played on Saturday night. The Red Wings traveled to Montreal to take on the Canadiens. Both teams have played relatively well, and primed for a good matchup. The game started off slow as both teams went scoreless in the first period. The Red Wings would strike first early on in the 2nd period on a goal by rookie sensation Dylan Larkin. However Montreal would respond minutes later on the power play as Brandan Gallagher would score to tie it up. Heading to the third period it would be all Canadiens. Jeff Petry would score on the power play to give the Canadiens the lead, than very late the canadiens would add another goal, and an empty net goal with one second to seal the deal.

Detroit Red Wings Vs. Carolina Hurricanes Recap

The Red Wings and the Hurricanes game started off strong, with a goal by Carolina's Brock McGinn within the first few seconds of the game. This was McGinn's first career goal. The period went on without another goal, though Carolina notably took almost 3 times as many shots as Detroit. 3 minutes into the 2nd, Justin Faulk scored a second goal for the Canes. Just a few minutes later, Eric Staal scored another, giving Carolina a 3-0 advantage. With about 6 minutes remaining in the period, Detroit ramped it up with two goals in quick succession thanks to Gustav Nyquist and Riley Sheahan. Well into the 3rd, about 20 seconds after Detroit's power play expires, Kris Versteeg scores another goal to assure their lead with a 4-2 score. With about 7 minutes left on the clock, Chris Terry scored another for the Canes. The game ended without much action soon after. This marked Jeff Blashill's first loss as the Redwings head coach.

The Detroit Red Wings took on their former Captains team the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both teams came in undefeated so somebody would have their first loss. Both teams played tough in the first period and were scoreless. The game looked as if it was going to be scoreless heading to the third period, but a goal by Gustav Nyquist on the power play gave the Red Wings the lead. Henrik Zetterberg would score next in the the third period to give the wings a 2-0 lead. Jimmy Howard looked good in net and was stopping everything till Ryan Callahan put one past him, but that would be the only the goal he would give up and the Wings would go on to win the game, and remain undefeated.

The schedule may take some getting used still for some fans since this will be there second year but ready or not the puck drops October 9th at home Vs. Boston.
