Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic: Louisville Cardinals vs. Auburn Tigers Recap

The Auburn Tigers struck first with a 5 play, 26 yard opening drive that ended with a 1 yard touchdown run by Jeremy Johnson. Auburn would score again in the 2nd quarter off a defensive play where Justin Garrett recovered and returned a Louisville fumble for a 82 yard touchdown. Auburn would score again to close out the half with a 12 play, 49 yard drive that ended with a 56 yard field goal by Daniel Carlson that would put Auburn up 17-0 at halftime. Auburn would strike again early in the 3rd quarter with a 7 play, 75 yard drive that ended with a 33 yard touchdown pass by Jeremy Johnson to Ricardo Louis to put them ahead 24-0. Louisville would respond with a 10 play, 50 yard drive that ended in a 43 yard field goal by John Wallace to put them on the board. They would follow that up with a 6 play, 36 yard drive that ended with a 10 yard touchdown run by Lamar Jackson to make it 24-10 in favor of Auburn near the end of the 3rd quarter. Auburn would respond early in the 4th quarter with a 12 play, 72 yard drive that ended with a 8 yard touchdown run by Ricardo Louis to put Auburn up 31-10. The Cardinals were not done yet as they responded with a 11 play, 75 yard drive that ended with a 2 yard touchdown run by Brandon Radcliff to pull within 14 points at 31-17. The Cardinals would score again near the end of the game with a 12 play, 81 yard drive that ended with a 2 yard touchdown run by Brandon Radcliff. That made the deficit only 7 points, but their comeback fell just short.
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Recap

In this game the West Virginia Mountaineers faced off against the number 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The Mountaineers made the most of their opportunities as their quarterback, Clint Trickett, threw for 365 yards and 1 touchdown. Most of these passes went to wide receiver Kevin White who had 9 receptions and 143 yards. The game was very close heading into halftime with Alabama leading West Virginia by only a field goal.
The Crimson Tide had many stand out players in this competition with running back TJ Yeldon rushing for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns on 23 carries. Derrick Henry, another Alabama half back, also ran for 113 yards and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Blake Sims threw no touchdowns on the day but did have 250 total passing yards.
Mississippi Rebels vs. Boise State Broncos Recap

The Mississippi Rebels and the Boise State Broncos game was a game full of big plays. Cody Core of the Rebels kept the action going all day scoring on a 76 yard touchdown reception. He also scored on another 30 yard play and ended the day with 4 receptions for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Mississippi quarterback Bo Wallace looked fairly sharp throwing for 387 yards and 4 touchdowns though he also had 3 interceptions. On the opposite side of the field, the quarterback for the Broncos, Grant Hedrick, had a tougher day as he completed 36 of his 46 passes for 264 yards but also threw 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. Hedrick also contributed 24 rushing yards on 14 attempts.
Boise State's real star player was Jay Ajayi. He carried the ball 20 times for 86 yards as well as catching 12 receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown.
