NBA Preseason: Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets Recap

The Boston Celtics played host to the Brooklyn Nets last evening at the TD Garden in downtown Boston, and continued an impressive 2015 NBA preseason. Boston took an early 1st quarter advantage, then held on for the final 3 periods to win for the 4th time in 5 tries, handing Brooklyn their 4th loss in a dozen preseason games.

Newly signed power forward Amir Johnson was most impressive again, hitting all but two of his eight shots and leading the Boston starters with 15 points on the night. A pair of bench players, Kelly Olynyk and Terry Rozier helped Boston to hold off a late Net’s rally, netting 14 and 16 points respectively.

The biggest stat taken from the game was the Celtic’s ability to get good shots, good shots that lead to a field goal percentage that ended up over 50% on the evening. Neither team held much of an edge in any of the other stat categories, so it was the Boston sharp shooting that ended up being the most important factor leading to their 6-point victory.

Nba Preseason: Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers Recap

The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets played a tight preseason basketball game yesterday in New York. Both teams shared the first half, each dominating one of the first two quarters.

Philly vaulted out to a 9 point 1st quarter lead, only to see the Nets outscore them in the 2nd 12-minute period to take a 1-point lead into the half time locker room.

The second half was give and take the whole way. Neither team could muster much offense in the 3rd quarter, tallying a total of 35-points between them. As a reference the champion Golden State Warriors scored that many points a couple nights ago all by themselves.

The 4th period was a back and forth affair, with Philadelphia looking like they were going to steal their 3rd win of the preseason to even their record, but it was Brooklyn who made the important late shots to match the 76ers with their second preseason win.

Brooklyn Nets Schedule in 2014 - 2015

The 2014 Brooklyn Nets have to be considered among the three favored teams to contend for Eastern Division of the National Basketball Association title. The offense this season will still revolve around Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and Alan Anderson. And the main outside scoring threat of Joe Johnson is back to torment defenses with his constant barrage of treys. Last year's team won a great fist round series agasint Atlanta? I can't remember which, but then we lost to Miami in some close contests.
So, the Nets are going to be facing a wide open Eastern Conference. Lebron is out at Miami, and now Cleveland is the compelling franchise to watch.

Brooklyn Nets Roster

How will the coaching situation shake out after the long courtship and jilting by Jason Kidd. Brooklyn ultimately went with another first time coach, Lionel Hollins.
Paul Pierce will not be back. The soon to be Hall of Famer will be missed, however Sergey Karasev and Jarett Jack were acquired from Boston in exchange for Marcus Thornton and Tyler Zeller. I am bullish on the deal for the Nets, as Jack is a dependable presence and Karasev has huge upside.
They lost Shaun Livingstone to free agency. This will be the a big gap to fill at the guard position. Veteran Jarett Jack is an offseason addition who will contribute significant minutes at the guard position.

Brooklyn Nets Trivia

The Nets have not had any success thus far in auditioning local talent for the position of team Mascot. First they tried Dancan The Dragon. Hah, get it, cause he's dunking all the time? Hilarious. But last year they added this managing brooding dark medieval thing the Brooklyn Knight. Hey, get on your lance, buddy and trot your merry ass back to where you can from.

Brooklyn Nets History

Brooklyn has just recently come into the league in this location, but the Nets franchise has a great tradition. Going back to the American Baskteball Association, the New York Nets won ABA championships in 1974 and 1976 on the strength of Dr. J, Julius Erving. He of the graceful 360 dunks, which had never been seen before. Contributors like Larry Kenon, Billy Paultz, and Swen Nater guided these teams to victory under coach Kevin Loughery. Some other prominent Nets players over the year, just wracking my brain were the late celebrated Serbian sharpshooter Dragen Petrovic. Michael Ray Richardson
