Northwestern Wildcats vs. Ball State Cardinals Recap
September 26, 2015
Yesterday, Northwestern successfully shook off a first half slump to beat the Cardinals in a minor victory to remain undefeated this season. Northwestern is the number 17 ranked team in the country and was said to be a favorite in the game against ball state yesterday, however they went in at halftime a few scores behind. Justin Jackson was a key player for the Wildcats offense yesterday and led an impressive run game. The trend seems to be reoccurring in the world of college football as Ohio State has struggled a lot this season and considering the major upsets last weekend. Luckily Northwestern won the game and remains in the AP poll, although Ball State put up quite a fight.
Texas A&M Aggies vs. Ball State Cardinals Recap
September 12, 2015
Fresh off a week one upset of then 15th ranked Arizona State, the Aggies of Texas A&M might have been prime pickings for a letdown upset. That was far from the scenario, as A&M pushed themselves into the college football playoff discussion as on outside horse with a 56 to 23 trouncing of Ball State.
Sure, Ball State is from what would be labeled a second-rate NCAA football conference, but having more than a few talented players make the leap to the NFL in recent years, the Cardinals are never without some athletic talent. BSU in fact had rolled up 48 points in their first game of the season, albeit against Virginia Military in a lopsided season opener.
Ball State answered Tra Carson’s early 1-yard Aggie TD with a 6 play – 71 yard drive ending in field goal, to make the score 7 to 3 A&M. For the better part of the next 2 quarters the Cardinal fans had little or nothing to get excited about, as the Aggies drove for 6 straight touchdowns to put a 46 point gap between themselves and the upstart Ball State team.
A&M quarterback only threw a baker’s dozen number of passing attempts on the night, but completed 10 of those – 3 for Aggie scores. Ball State was clearly out manned on both sides of the football and couldn’t generate much of any offense until late in the game when the Texas A&M reserve units took the field.
A&M with two impressive wins to open the season, and clearly a high-powered offense, are now a team everyone in the SEC has on their radar. The Aggies will get a third warm-up game next week against Nevada, before they kickoff the SEC regular season as they host another top 25 ranked team the Razorbacks from Arkansas. Ball State will have little time to regroup after this beatdown as the Cardinals must begin their MAC conference schedule next week as they travel to Eastern Michigan.
Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Ball State Cardinals Recap
September 6, 2014
The Iowa Hawkeyes hosted the Ball State Cardinals in a non-conference affair in Iowa City on Saturday afternoon. The Hawkeyes would need some last minute heroics to squeak out the victory today. Ball State opened the scoring with a defensive touchdown in the 1st quarter. Blake Dueitt scooped up a fumble and ran it back 35 yards for the score. After trading a few field goals Ball State headed into the 4th quarter with a 13-3 lead. Unfortunately, for the Cardinals, this was the Hawkeyes day. Jake Rudock drove Iowa down field for two scores in the waning minutes of the game to seal the victory for the home team.
