Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals Recap
October 18, 2015
Steelers third-string quarterback Landry Jones led Pittsburgh to a surprising second-half comeback, and the Steelers beat Arizona at Heinz Field to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Steelers' passing game was completely ineffective under Michael Vick, who threw for just six yards before leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter with Pittsburgh trailing 10-3. Jones led four scoring drives and threw two touchdowns, finishing 8-of-12 for 168 yards in the game. Le'Veon Bell added 88 yards on the ground for Pittsburgh, while Martavis Bryant had six receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Carson Palmer threw for 421 yards in Arizona's losing effort.
Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals Recap
October 11, 2015
Arizona took advantage of six Detroit turnovers to rout the hapless Lions at Ford Field behind four second-quarter touchdowns. Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer took advantage of great field position to throw three touchdown passes in just 14 attempts overall. Palmer finished 11-of-14 for 161 yards. Chris Johnson ran for 103 yards on 11 carries, leading a Cardinals rushing game that gained a shocking 7.5 yards per carry. The Cardinals moved to 4-1 on the season. The Lions are 0-5, certainly a disappointing start for a team that made the playoffs in 2014. Matthew Stafford was benched after throwing three interceptions, but coach Jim Caldwell said Stafford is still the team's starter.
Arizona Cardinals Vs. St. Louis Rams Recap
October 4, 2015
The Arizona Cardinals hosted the St. Louis Rams yesterday afternoon in Arizona, with designs on taking complete control of the NFL West division with their 4th win of the 2015 NFL season. St. Louis, once the home of the Cardinals, had other ideas.
The Rams would find what was projected in the preseason as one of the stouter defenses in pro football, and held the vaunted Cardinal air attack in check most of the afternoon.
Carson Palmer had sliced 3 opposing defenses apart, leading Arizona to their first 3 wins without a loss, but although he managed to connect on 29 passes, the level of efficiency was far less than the three previous weeks. Nick Foles on the other hand was methodical and efficient behind center for the Rams. Foles only had a total of 171 passing yards, meager on a normal NFL Sunday afternoon in the era of the pass, but 3 of his 16 completions were for St. Louis scores.
The most important statistic on the books that played a part in this outcome was turnovers. The Rams picked Palmer off one time, and one of his 29 completions was fumbled by Larry Fitzgerald ending a Cardinal drive. The Rams evened their season record at a 2 wins against 2 losses, inching closer to the top of the division, now just one game off Arizona for first place.
